The Four Seas Players closes their 54th season with an original play, ๐“๐ก๐ž๐ซ๐ž ๐ˆ๐ฌ ๐€๐ฅ๐ฐ๐š๐ฒ๐ฌ ๐’๐ฎ๐ง๐ฌ๐ก๐ข๐ง๐ž ๐Ž๐ง ๐“๐ก๐ž ๐’๐ญ๐š๐ ๐ž, written by Patrick Lee.ย  The production is directed also by Patrick Lee with an ensemble cast, to be performed in Chinese and English with subtitles.

We open on the rehearsals for the Sunshine Theater Group who performs for the local community and has struggled as many non-profits have from the pandemic. The Sunshine Theater Group is on a quest for the perfect play to commemorate their 50th anniversary โ€” possibly their final performance due to financial challenges. Life brings forth a variety of narratives from different individuals, but yet their unique tales ultimately converge toward a collective story – โ€œThe Peopleโ€™sโ€ story. Often overlooked even within the AAPI community, these stories need to continue living. This play aims to celebrate and preserve the plurality of humanity. Centered on authenticity and cultural stewardship, the play embodies a sense of hopefulness. By re-telling these stories genuinely, their narratives can be reclaimed from time and historyโ€™s erasure, ensuring the people are heard and respected.

The Four Seas Players has become an steadfast cultural institution in the community for more than 50 years, embodying unity, celebrating diversity and mirroring the real life struggles of the community it serves. Its commitment to promoting harmony and cooperation through the arts has made it an integral part of New York City’s arts scene. As it continues to grow, the company remains dedicated to cultural enrichment and artistic expression for audiences of all backgrounds.

Four Seas Players serves as a platform for aspiring actors and performers, offering training and performance opportunities to individuals from diverse backgrounds. Their productions showcase the richness of Chinese theatrical traditions while tackling contemporary themes. In addition to their theatrical work, they engage in educational workshops, seminars, and community events that foster cultural understanding and appreciation. Collaborations with schools, community centers, and cultural institutions bring the arts closer to the community and inspire future generations.
