Nora Brown Concert to Benefit St. Ann’s Pop-Up Pantry

St. Ann & the Holy Trinity Church is honored to host Jalopy Records and singer and banjoist Nora Brown to celebrate the release of her new album Long Time To Be Gone that was recorded in the church’s sanctuary. Fifty percent of ticket sale proceeds will benefit St. Ann’s weekly Pop-up Food Pantry, which has served the community for more than two years. 

Many were first treated to music by the banjo-playing phenomenon in 2017, when she launched her career at age 12 as Little Nora Brown at the Brooklyn Folk Festival. Since then, she has become widely recognized as a performer and recorder of traditional Appalachian music. 

Long Time To Be Gone is Nora’s third full-length album. It is a mesmerizing collection of traditional tunes and songs and follows her performance on NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert series, where she was lauded for bringing “incredible, surprising depth to the Appalachian music she plays,” and 2021’s Sidetrack My Engine, which debuted at #6 on the Billboard Bluegrass Chart.

The new album offers a snapshot of a remarkable young artist, showcasing both her abilities on a variety of instruments and her poignant, understated vocal delivery. The songs draw on the lived experiences of a broad swath of Americans, keeping their stories and spirits alive with reverence and vitality.

Nora will be joined at the August 26 concert by fellow musicians Stephanie Coleman, Jackson Lynch and Hannah Read. Tickets can be purchased in advance for $15, or at the door for $20. You’ll find details about the event. The entrance to the church sanctuary is at the corner of Montague and Clinton Streets in Brooklyn Heights.

The Pop-Up Pantry is open Tuesdays from 10:30 am to 12 noon at the church entrance and provides nutritious food to some 300 people each week. Guests are offered purchased and donated fresh produce and other food, a choice of grains (pasta, rice, quinoa) and proteins (beans and canned tuna) as well as other items upon request. The pantry welcomes the support of the community to keep the pantry sufficiently stocked.
