ABOUT:

Give your mother the gift of nature this Mother’s Day! On the Saturday before Mother’s Day, May 10th, The Long Island Conservancy will be hosting “Mother Nature Day” at The Science Museum of Long Island on Leeds Pond Preserve. An assortment of native plants will be on offer for sale, mostly wildflowers, and in particular our three native milkweeds.

At Mother Nature Day, we will offer visitors a tour of the grounds so that you can see for yourself the work being done at Leeds Pond Preserve to restore nature: What native plants and trees have been planted? What invasive species are being removed?

There will also be discussion about measures to repopulate areas with the native American Chestnut tree–Caused by a blight in 1904, the population has been reduced by several billion trees.
