Queens-based museums & businesses unite for Science Expo

Jamaica Queens, NY – March 23, 2024 – The Lewis Latimer Science & Career Expo is set to captivate and educate students with its vibrant showcase of science and career opportunities. Hosted at York College in Queens from 9 a.m to 3 p.m., this event promises a day of immersive exploration for 5th to 11th graders, featuring dynamic panel discussions, inspiring speakers, interactive workshops, and a display of non-profit initiatives.

The expo aims to ignite curiosity and introduces students to everyday science while highlighting the small businesses in their communities.

Featured Exhibits:

LD Organic Hair offers a hands-on exhibit on diseases of the scalp.

Queens Modern Dental dives into the anatomy of the mouth.

Gamestation transports students to outer space through Virtual Reality.

Plus, engaging displays from renowned institutions like the NY Hall of Science Museum, Lewis Latimer House Museum, JFK Aerospace and Aeronautics Academy, and more.

Keynote Speaker: Public Advocate Jumaane Williams

Aleeia Abraham, founder of the BlaQue Resource Network, emphasizes the expo’s significance: “Producing a science expo for our students is about more than just education; it’s a transformative effort to nurture talent, ignite passion, and foster vital connections between our youth, community orgs, and businesses. It’s an intentional effort towards advancement for all involved.”

Produced by BlaQue Community Cares, in collaboration with partners such as York College, the Hall of Science, Con Edison, National Grid, Queens Zoo, Queens Public Library, King Manor Museum, DAs office, and others, this event underscores the power of collaboration in promoting scientific education within the Black community.
