Holi (Indian Festival of Colors) Celebration at NYPL

Celebrate Holi at NYPL with a special bi-lingual (Hindi – English) book reading of Kahani Rangeeli or Colorful Story. In this session author Anu Sehgal, Founder of The Culture Tree, will read a colorful story of Holi with Krishna and his friends. You will hear one of the ancient stories of Holi, while learning how it is celebrated.

Holi has been celebrated in the Indian subcontinent for centuries and has origin stories dating back to the 4th century CE. Holi marks the arrival of spring after a cold winter, and is symbolic of the triumph of good over evil. It is celebrated in March, corresponding to the Hindu calendar month of Phalguna. It is now celebrated around the world as a way to welcome spring, embrace inclusivity and get messy with color.

Book reading will be followed with a puppet making activity and Holi face painting.
