Queens, NY – October 9, 2025Conch Shell Productions (CSP), in partnership with York College’s Performing & Fine Arts Department, presents a free CSIFF Community Screening on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at 5:00 PM, in Jamaica, Queens.

This special screening is part of CSP’s 2025 Conch Shell International Film Fest (CSIFF) Community Series — a program designed to celebrate Caribbean heritage voices in film and bring meaningful storytelling directly to local audiences.

The evening will showcase a powerful lineup of award-winning and visionary short films by Caribbean filmmakers, including:

🎥 Aftershocks: A Tetralogy of Our Times – Written by Magaly Colimon-Christopher (Haiti) and Juan Ramírez Jr. (Puerto Rico); Directed by Teisha Duncan (Jamaica) and Pat Golden (USA). A four-part narrative exploring how Caribbean communities navigate the emotional and cultural “aftershocks” of the pandemic through resilience, imagination, love, and hope.

🎥 Entre Puerto Rico y Richmond: Women in Resistance Shall Not Be Moved – Written and directed by Alicia Díaz (Puerto Rico). A bilingual dance film that honors Black female tobacco stemmers and Puerto Rican anti-colonial activists as icons of strength and resistance.

🎥 Rise Up! – Written and directed by Grace Stelk (Suriname). Winner of CSIFF 2021 Best Animation Award, this visually stunning short follows a bird’s centuries-old struggle for freedom and survival, serving as a metaphor for resilience and liberation.

🎥 The Jill of the Trade – Written and directed by Charysse Tia Harper (Trinidad and Tobago). A documentary featuring five women who break barriers in male-dominated professions — including one of Afghanistan’s few female mayors — revealing stories of courage, leadership, and perseverance.

Following the screening, Professor Patricia Haggler, Chair of York College’s History, Philosophy & Anthropology Department, will lead a post-screening Q&A exploring how these filmmakers use art to awaken awareness, spark cross-cultural dialogue, and amplify underrepresented voices.

“This program connects deeply with York College’s mission to foster global awareness and cultural literacy,” says CSP Founder and Producing Artistic Director Magaly Colimon-Christopher. “It’s an evening that celebrates the Caribbean spirit of survival and creativity.”

This event is free to the public, but seating is limited. Early RSVP is strongly encouraged.
