The Literary Freedom Project Presents Bronx Screening of Azuei, a Powerful Documentary on Haitian-Dominican Solidarity

Bronx, NY — The Literary Freedom Project, in collaboration with Dominicans Love Haitians, proudly presents a special screening of Azuei, a stirring documentary that celebrates the power of art to bridge the divide between Haiti and the Dominican Republic. The event takes place on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at The Bronx Museum of the Arts (1040 Grand Concourse) and will feature a post-screening panel with acclaimed directors Jean Jean and Rachele Magloire, facilitated by artist and activist MelimeL.

Far more than a film, Azuei documents a movement. Through the Kiskey’ART tour, artists from both sides of the island joined forces—crossing borders, leading workshops, and engaging communities with music, murals, and film. From Anse-à-Pitres to Santo Domingo, and Santiago to Cap-Haïtien, the tour sowed seeds of creativity and solidarity across the island, even in the face of political tension and border resistance.

The documentary captures this unforgettable journey and introduces ArtYBonito, the first album by the Azuei collective—a sonic reflection of resilience and collaboration.

Directed and edited by Jean Jean and Rachele Magloire, and produced by Azuei et FOKAL with support from the European Union, Azuei runs 80 minutes and offers a deeply human look at cultural resistance through art.

This event is part of the Literary Freedom Project’s Sak Pasé, Haiti initiative, a summer-long celebration of Haitian culture and legacy through literature, storytelling, and community gatherings. Curated by tasha dougé, Sak Pasé, Haiti honors Haiti’s revolutionary history and vibrant cultural presence.
